The Art of the Personal Essay
Have you read a personal essay on a parenting website, inside a national publication or in a college alumni magazine and thought: "I can do that!" Well, you can! In this four-week class, award-winning journalist Adrienne Samuels Gibbs will teach the elements of great essay writing. Each week the group will discuss great personal essays and learn how to pen a tale of self-discovery. Students will workshop their essay ideas and rough drafts in class. At the end of the session, each student should have an essay ready to submit for publication. (Pitching and publications will be touched upon.) This class is best suited for beginning and intermediate writers plus bloggers ready to go to the next level. Everyone has a story to tell, and this class will help you tell it!
